In March 2018 over 330 women from across the country came together at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay for the second Women in Conservation Leadership Summit. Representatives from over 120 different organizations – from interns to long standing board members – embarked on a mission to build women’s leadership for a stronger conservation movement.
The 2018 theme was “Elevate, Empower, Embolden”. Over the course of the week attendees were given leadership tools to take back to their organizations, including coaching sessions on active listening, using empathy to inform your leadership, and network mapping. Attendees were also given space for internal reflection to consider what motivates them in their work, to assess how their time is allocated, and to set future career and personal goals. Throughout the event, attendees were given opportunities to network with other women leaders in conservation and learn from their experiences in the field.
